Update: Our Scholarship Fund
Most of us are painfully aware of the financial challenges the University faced in 2008, 2009 and 2010, particularly with respect to our endowment. Markets were down which negatively impacted most University endowments. The good news is that while the economy is far from robust, we have much more positive towards our Bay Area Scholarship Endowment. Throughout the year, we raised significant funds to add to our scholarship fund through donations and events. In particular, our annual golf tournament and awards dinner raised almost $5,000. We're looking forward to an equally successful event in 2012 (details to follow in a few months).
2011 results are not yet available, but our endowment ended the fiscal year of June 30, 2010 with a total of $49,592.87. We've raised this amount through the hard work of our Bay Area Board and the generosity and participation of our many Bay Area Alumni. Because of our success, we are able to fund annual awards to outstanding Bay area scholars to attend the University. Typically, we are able to contribute anywhere from $1,500 - $2,000 annually. As our endowment grows, our ability to provide more significant annual scholarships will also grow. Given these challenging economic times, every dollar we can contribute helps ease a students financial burden.
