Scholarship Endowment Update

Fellow Pitt Alumni:
I thought I'd take a moment during this Holiday season
to update everyone on our Bay Area Scholarship
Endowment. 2008 was a good year for our
endowment. As you can see from the table below, we
grew our scholarship quite significantly. As of June
30th, our scholarship endowment showed the following
results:

To be clear, the difference between book and market
value is that book represents the actual original
donation amounts we have raised. Market value
reflects book value plus earnings from the invested
proceeds. The good news is that as of June, our
market value had exceeded our initial goal of
$50,000 thanks to the support and generosity of our
Bay area alumni. Of course, we all know what has
happened to the financial markets since June, so I
expect our endowment will be impacted as well.
Regardless of amount, we've come a long way in a
few short years. Our Club and all of our Bay Area Pitt
Alumni should be very proud of these results. You
generosity has impacted the lives of several
outstanding Bay area students. By helping these Bay
area scholars attend Pitt, we deepen the bonds
between our two regions while helping worthly
students. I'm sure you all realize that higher education
costs have risen dramatically, and Pitt is no
exception. Tuition and expenses can be particularly
daunting for an out-of-state student, so every dollar of
support that our Club can provide is sincerely
appreciated by these students and their families.

2008 Scholarship Winner Announced
|
|
|
|
We are proud to announce that our SF Bay Area Pitt Club
Scholarship for 2008 Has been awarded to Emily O'Brien.
Emily becomes our third scholarship recipient, joining our
2007 selection, Deidre Ruscitti and our 2006 selection,Kyle
Hill.
We asked Emily to tell us a little about herself, and you can
read her essay on our 2008 Scholarship Page.
